HP TouchPad buyers to get 50GB of cloud storage free

HP is well aware of the fact that challenging the iPad won’t be easy, but the company has a few tricks up its sleeve when it comes to the TouchPad. Enterprise customers will no doubt find HP’s extensive business integration experience a plus, but that’s certainly not going to motivate consumers to shell out $500. HP knows that of course. That’s why it signed up boxing great Manny Pacquiao to do TV spots, dangled a Skype app, and worked with Roxio to offer an integrated video store.
Now it sounds like there might be a few more Easter Eggs on those soon-to-arrive TouchPads waiting for customers to discover. Thanks to the early arrival of working demo units at Walmart, one PreCentral reader has already unearthed one seriously cool offer: 50GB of free cloud storage from the folks at Box.net. Those of you who purchase a TouchPad will simply need to tap and launch the Box.net app (which is preinstalled on the TouchPad) and the offer will appear.
There are, of course, some unknowns — like whether the free 50GB is a limited-time thing and you’ll be on the hook for Box.net’s $20 per month fee after a certain point. The offer may also only apply to new customers, but we’ll have to wait for confirmation.

Any way you slice it, 50GB of storage in the cloud from a reliable provider like Box.net is a seriously tasty carrot to dangle in front of potential buyers, especially when you consider all the services Box.net integrates with — like webOS favorite ThinkFree, and others including Google Docs, Zoho, and Picnik.
